Ileostomy absorbent gels work by absorbing liquid ostomy output inside the pouch and turning it into a thicker, gel-like consistency. Depending on the product, the absorbent material may come in a dissolvable packet or as loose granules placed directly inside the ostomy pouch.
As the absorbent material contacts liquid output, it draws in moisture and forms a more uniform gel that moves less freely inside the pouch. Product specifications should be reviewed carefully to confirm product format, absorbency, amount to use, pouch compatibility, and intended use.
