A continent ostomy catheter is used to help drain stored output from an internal continent ostomy reservoir, such as a continent ileostomy or Kock pouch. The catheter is used through the stoma opening to access the internal pouch and allow output to drain when directed by the customer’s healthcare provider.
Continent ostomy catheters are different from standard external ostomy pouches because they are used with specific internal reservoir systems rather than worn as a collection bag outside the body. Product specifications and healthcare guidance should be reviewed carefully to confirm catheter size, French size, tip style, length, material, sterility, disposability, and compatibility with the customer’s continent ostomy system.
