Stoma powder helps absorb moisture from moist or irritated skin around a stoma, while a skin barrier wipe leaves a thin protective film on the skin. Both are ostomy accessories that may be used with an ostomy wafer or skin barrier, but they serve different functions in an ostomy pouching routine.
Stoma powder is a dry absorbent powder used on peristomal skin when moisture may interfere with wafer or skin barrier adhesion. A skin barrier wipe or barrier film is applied to the skin to create a thin layer between the skin and the ostomy pouching system. These products may also be used together as part of a crusting technique when directed by product instructions or healthcare guidance.
