Stoma powder is used in ostomy care when the skin around the stoma is moist, weeping, raw, or irritated and needs help becoming dry enough for an ostomy wafer or skin barrier to adhere. It is applied to peristomal skin as part of an ostomy pouching routine when moisture may interfere with pouching system fit.
Stoma powder may also be used with a skin barrier wipe or barrier film as part of a crusting technique when directed by product instructions or healthcare guidance. Customers should seek guidance from an ostomy nurse or healthcare provider if the skin around the stoma is broken, worsening, painful, bleeding, or not improving.
