A two-piece ostomy bag uses a separate pouch and wafer or skin barrier that connect together, while a one-piece ostomy bag has the pouch and wafer integrated into a single unit. Both systems collect stoma output as part of an ostomy pouching system.
In a two-piece ostomy system, the pouch may be changed separately from the wafer depending on the product design. In a one-piece ostomy system, the pouch and skin barrier are removed together. Product specifications should be reviewed carefully to confirm flange or coupling size, wafer compatibility, stoma opening size, convexity, closure type, filter, pouch capacity, and accessory compatibility before ordering.
