The three main types of urinary catheters are intermittent catheters, indwelling (Foley) catheters, and external catheters. Each type is designed for a different method of urinary drainage and product use.
Intermittent catheters are inserted temporarily and removed after use, Foley catheters remain in place for continuous drainage, and external catheters are worn outside the body to collect urine. Within these main categories, there are also sub-types such as closed system, coude, hydrophilic, pre-lubricated, condom, and Texas-style catheters.
